Department of Oral and Dental Medicine
The Department of Dentistry at the International University of Gulf of Aden was established in 2019. The aim of teaching dentistry is to graduate dentists who are prepared to serve the main and essential goals of dentistry. In addition, dentists must possess distinctive characteristics that are necessary to meet their individual and collective responsibilities towards society. From this belief stems the main goal of the Department of Dentistry at the International University of Gulf of Aden, which seeks to graduate dentists with high quality and efficiency who are characterized by knowledge, skill and performance of duty with human motivation and altruism in the first place.
Dentistry students go through two basic stages during their studies, through which the student acquires all the cognitive and training aspects to become a skilled and highly professional dentist. These two stages are divided into:
Pre-clinical stage:
It includes the first three years of study (first, second and third years), through which the student is exposed to all the basic sciences in medicine and oral and dental medicine. At this stage, students receive their education through courses given in cooperation with various departments such as the Department of Pharmacy and the Department of Laboratories, in addition to the Department of Dentistry, which handles the basic courses in oral and dental medicine.
The student also trains in modern laboratories such as the dental manufacturing laboratory and the phantom head laboratory, in which the student is trained in conservative treatment of extracted teeth and artificial teeth, as well as the presence of dental x-rays and digital x-rays.
Clinical stage:
This stage includes the fourth and fifth academic years, in which students receive the necessary clinical training in various specialties of oral and dental medicine, in addition to theoretical in-depth study of all dental specialties to enable them to treat patients with high efficiency.
In the clinical stage, the department is equipped with dental clinics in all specialties, including clinics for treating root canals, treating children’s teeth, treating and replacing missing teeth with fixed and removable prostheses, treating and diagnosing gum diseases, in addition to the presence of digital x-rays inside the clinics.
The clinics are also equipped with high-quality sterilization devices
